Getting an Apostilles for Adoption Reasons

Birth and Marriage Certificates

How To Apostille Your Marriage Certificate from Indiana?

Your marriage certificate is from Indiana.

You would send that along with the other documents to IN Secretary of State as listed in the earlier instructions here.

***However, for your MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, it would need to be signed by the current clerk of courts in the county of which your marriage took place.  For your adoption, you need 2 originals apostilled.

***To confirm the current clerk of each county visit . Once the correct version is obtained, an apostille or authentication can be granted.

Please use a pre-paid envelope with a tracking number for the return mail.

You can call the IN Secy of State to verify that the address and the fees are the same.  Ask them if they have a preferred mail courier for the return mail.  Ask if anything is different due to Covid?

Birth Certificates

Your birth certificates DO NOT need to be apostilled.  Earlier, in the “read me first”, I asked that you order 4 certified copies of your birth certificates.  That is the total number you’ll need for the entire adoption process.  2 of them will be for the dossier.  However, they do not need to be apostilled.  So when you send us the dossier, just include 2 of the 4 copies.

Divorce Decrees

For any divorces, the divorce certificates need to be presented with the adoption dossier.  Only photocopies of all previous divorce certificates/degrees are required.  No apostilles.  Just copies of each one.
